Spellbinders February Large Die of the Month Kit

Good morning!! I am so excited to share a project with you today featuring the Spellbinders February Large Die of the Month!! I am in LOVE!!! This kit has the most beautiful layered butterfly, a sentiment and several small flowers and leaves. Let’s get to my project!!

I have been loving this long, thin card size lately!! It gives me more room to work and still fits into a #10 envelope. I began by watercolring a panel of watercolor paper with Salty Ocean, Twisted Citrine, Mustard Seed and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks. After the panel was dry, I trimmed it to be slightly smaller than my 4 1/4″ X 8 1/2″ card base. I die-cut the butterflies using three of the dies included in the February Large Die of the Month Kit from polka-dot vellum, regular vellum and white cardstock, by running them through my Platinum 6 die-cutting machine. The sentiment was also cut from white cardstock. The butterflies were layered and adhered only in the center so the wings still “fluttered”. After adhering the butterflies and sentiment as shown, a sprinkling of clear hearts from the Boiled Sugar Jelly Heart Drops completes the card.

  1. Oh Brenda, this is absolutely stunning! Your work inspires me so much! You have piqued my interest, how exactly do you mean you watercolor with the distress inks? I’ve done blending with my distress inks but have never tried watercoloring with them. Are you smooshing them on a craft sheet and spritzing them with water or is there a smoother way you go about this? Your blend is so deliciously smooth, I love it! Thank you so much! -Jen
